  • Is Obama Strong Enough To Face A Serious Threat?

    • Pentagon claims ship was surrounded in international waters
    • Chinese sailors strip to underwear as US vessel sprays hoses in defence

China and America have been drawn into a rare confrontation on the high seas, it emerged today, when the Pentagon accused Chinese ships of manoeuvring dangerously close to a US navy vessel.

The US intends to protest to the Chinese military attache in Washington after Sunday's incident, which followed several days of what US defence officials called "increasingly aggressive" acts by Chinese ships.

At one point, the Pentagon said, the US vessel Impeccable sprayed one ship with water from fire hoses to force it away. The Chinese came within eight metres of the American ship, the Pentagon said, calling the manoeuvre "an apparent co-ordinated effort to harass the US ocean surveillance ship while it was conducting routine operations in international waters".

  • That is just plain damn scary!

  • Ugh. Heck no. I don't want to offend any ones political views and such but Obama isn't everything he is made out to be. He is a politican and I feel he obviously cannot handle his job. I hate the way he speaks especially when he isn't prepared for it meaning I feel he has no common sense.

Do you think he is ready or atleast strong to handle it?

  • I think a lot of the aggression has a lot more to do with the state of our country and less with the leaders. It's common sense for a sovereignty to aggress towards a weaker sovereignty than a strong one.

  • @xNicolax - Especially since our economy is steadily declining. That also means our defenses and offenses as well since they are inherently linked to the economy.

  • This is not the first time the Chinese have tested a new president. Recall the spyplane incident early in Bush's presidency. They're basically testing Obama to see if they can walk all over him.

  • @AirForceVirgin - Is your hubby still Military?  Either way, you'll alll be in my thoughts.  Be safe and well.

  • @lonelywanderer2 - Yes he is, and if he is sent anywhere near China in the next few months, I'm going to have a cow, I swear.

  • @XxWiltedRosexX - @xNicolax - @randomneuralfirings@AirForceVirgin - - We are also now in the position of depending on China to buy our debts.  It will be interesting to see how that affects our bargaining and/or military bargaining strength.  Would you threaten force against somebody who owns your mortgage?

  • @lonelywanderer2 - On the other hand, the Chinese would really like to get their money back with interest. The dependence cuts both ways.

  • @randomneuralfirings - True enough.  I once had someone tell me "You better be nice to me, 'cause you owe me 5 dollars".  I said "No, YOU better be nice to ME; since I owe you 5 dollars".

  • Obama is showing himself to be clueless regarding international affairs and unwilling to take advice. The Russians have slapped him, the Chinese are pushing him, the Iranians are telling him what he must do, and the Pakistanis are labeling the USA a paper tiger.

I hope so but I am not optimistic. Sometimes the weakest, will lash out the most violently when they feel they have lost all respect. It could go two ways. No reaction or over reaction

  • The Chinese forces cannot be underestimated. They can cause serious threat if the leaders do not take precautions.

  • @trunthepaige - You said it best.  I have nothing to add to your comment.

  • @trunthepaige - Very insightful.  I did alot of Security work.  A coward or a "weak" person or group is the worst kind to face, as they may lash out in fear, or cower in a corner, and can explode without warning.
@Murazrai -Yes they can cause a very serious threat.
    @Papillon_Mom - Thanks for reading.

  • I don't think Obama has enough knowledge or experience to handle national security.

  • Do you ever notice how juvenile all of this foreign policy stuff is? It's a bit like a child complaining that his sibling is on his side of the bedroom. "Mommy! His battleship keeps copying me!"

Babies playing with atom bombs, that's who's running our world.

  • @AibellFaeire - lol.  It does all seem like a childish game at times.  In a way, it is, and would be more fun if they didn't have such dangerous toys.  Supersoakers and Paintball guns only, please!  Whoever loses buys the pizza!  You're officially nominated as Secretary of State!

  • @lonelywanderer2 - If our Secretary of State played paintball, I'd vote for him for President. Shoot.

  • Hi! Thank you for being Xanga Friends and subscribing!
I find Obama the best choice USA could make. =)

  • @TempsPerdu - I obviously disagree, but time will tell.  Thanks for being friends with me, reading, and taking the time to respond.  I encourage you to get to know exactly what Obama's plans are.

  • With help... maybe YES, without any help, he is a goner.

  • @RestlessButterfly - Sure, he'd need help, but is he wise enough to pick the RIGHT advisors, and know the right course of action?

  • @lonelywanderer2 - From past history... NO!  Somehow he always ended up picked the wrong kind of guys.

  • It's scary.  I've been a government contractor for multiple companies over the last decade or so, and more than once I've got a 20 something page debriefing about how we expect to be at war with china within 20 years.

    Me no like war.
