What Is Happening To The Independence Americans Once Held Dear? Threats To Our Economy & Our Rights
I am sitting here thinking about the future. The future of the world is very uncertain right now, as is the future of our country. Barack Obama promises change, but change to what? Does he have the wisdom to know what's right, and the resolve to carry it through? I hope so, but I am not sure. I have a good deal of experience in Security, having worked for years in Security and Law Enforcement. I think I have a sense of the threats facing us. The most most obvious threat right now comes from Islamic radicals. It is not however, the only threat facing us. There is also the uncertain economy and, at the heart of it all, the attempt by some to undermine our basic rights. The Left and the Right both speak of free speech, but radicals on both sides want to shut down any speech which disagrees with their agenda. The recognition in the Constitution of our right to free speech was mostly intended to protect those expressing different political views. We must not let the freedoms we cherish be taken away in the name of security. The more we depend on Government to take care of us, the less free we are.
Much of the Banking Industry, and the Auto Industry, have now been given Federal bailout money. In the case of banks, some were basically forced to accept the money by the Federal Government, which is now using the money as leverage to exercise increasing control over the banks, including salary caps for high-level bank officials. The Federal Government is making it difficult, if not impossible, for the banks to pay back the money and regain freedom from heavy-handed Government regulation. The auto industry is being pressured to make certain types of cars, without regard to what consumers are asking for, and also to reduce regulation of Union accountability.
They tell us, you should not keep guns for your own protection. You don't need to. The police will take care of you. Yet the police are not responsible for protecting us as individuals. We must do that ourselves. And we can only do so by being prepared. We can keep the USA as a free country, but only if we are willing to stand up for ourselves. It is not only our right, it is our responsibility! The second amendment states "A well-regulated militia, being necessary to a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed".
The militia consists of all able citizens. You have a duty to protect yourself and your community.
Necessary to a free State. I believe this does not refer to a State as in WI, IL, whatever. I believe this refers to a State of Freedom, which is the right of all people.
Which leads to the "right of the people". This refers to a right belonging to each of us individually, as it does in the rest of the Constitution. The Constitution does not give us this right. It merely recognizes that we HAVE this right!!!
"To keep and bear arms" To keep means to own and maintain possession of. To bear means to carry, and carrying your arms (firearms or other weapons) is the only way to be prepared to face threats by those who would rob or harm you or others.
"shall not be infringed" This says in no uncertain terms the Government is NOT ALLOWED to make laws prohibiting us from keeping and bearing arms. Not for hunting, not for target practice, but for the protection of ourselves, our communities, our loved ones, even our property!
The Second Amendment is what ensures we can defend all our rights. We must stay always on guard to keep those rights from being eroded, and eventually taken away completely.
Patrick Henry was quoted as saying:
“The Constitution is not an instrument for the government to restrain the people, it is an instrument for the people to restrain the government - lest it come to dominate our lives and interests.”
My criticisms do not apply strictly to the current administration, nor does the blame belong solely to any one political party. Many of our rights have been horribly infringed upon for a very long time. Gun rights have been eroded so much over the years, they hardly seem to exist at all anymore. Some have even tried to get the 2nd amendment repealed, saying it is irrelevant. See Blair Holt gun control bill rehashed - ESPNNow, what has been done or attempted to stop free speech?

And the threat of losing these rights is always around us. Censorship and the fact that no one wants to hear any opinion is right other than their own. The right to bear arms is a great right yet we are letting it be taken away slowly... our country started as a republic and has progressed to a democracy... what will happen next? Our constitutional rights are slowly being phased out under the guise of being good for the country... I agree with what you have written about the definitions of our rights as well as the threats to our country... to add to it I believe that we as a nation of people our the biggest threat to our freedoms and rights... because we have taken to letting the government take care of us and everything for us more and more. Pretty soon what are we going to have left to us?
Take one step at the time... and at the same time live your life to the fullest, after all we only live once.
@RestlessButterfly - Very true. Thanks for reading & rec'ing!
Recommend by RestlessButterfly so i thought i drop by to say hi.

@Papaya26 - Thanks for stopping by; I look forward to getting to know you better.
Very true. I agree.
I think we are only steps away from having our liberties erased. This was a good post!
lol you know, these days Im not even sure who are the real terrorists
"The Constitution does not give us this right. It merely recognizes that we HAVE this right!!!"
Exactly. The Constitution establishes nothing new, just recognizes what is inherently true.
Japan has strict gun control in its country, and so far it has been going well.
I'm one of many millions that has never fired a gun, and probably never will. I think gun control can work. Fewer dead cops, fewer people can their hands on guns. Fewer people die from stupid beef. Increase producttivity of the nation by keeping people alive. Everyone would resort to martial arts if they want to get into a fight. It'll be a wonderful world you see. =)
i think the Supreme Court agrees with you... in very strict terms, though. their decision in 08 was a big deal.
although, i'm sure they're not as liberal about it. still.
@Neowind - With all due respect, I'd like to move toward what our system is supposed to be, not adopt Japan's.
@lonelywanderer2 - I hope I didn't offend you by posting my comments either. =)
Our system of gun control will have to be different than Japan because Gun control in Japan started in 1588. So it's not even a comparasion of what should be or shouldn't be. It will be interesting to see what system of gun control there will be for sure.
There's a saying "When push comes to shove, you give the trigger a tight squeeze and release." When Australia banned guns, crime rates increased by a few % in most areas, and some areas increased drastically. It's not like the criminals will give up their guns.
@Neowind - You didn't offend me. I'm glad you didn't take offense. I didn't intend any. I like the old saying you quote.

Very good points. I look forward to talking to you again.
Great post
well said (:
Obama's got an awful full agenda and it will be taking his full attention for quite some time. I think your gun ownership rights will be safe for a good, long time. ;)
@Automaton_Emotion - I've actually been a cop, where I could carry & others couldn't. Still thought "Why am I better than them? "Cause I'm a cop? Ridiculous." Thanks for the support.
@lonelywanderer2 - Honestly, I can't imagine feeling any safer knowing that there were even more guns being carried by the general populace.
I understand and respect your viewpoint.
For the sake of not starting my own essay on your blog, I'm just going to get to the heart of it by saying, "I agree, completely."
@whatkerisaid - You can start an essay on my site anytime you like. lol. Thanks for reading; hope to talk to ya soon.
I think the right to own a gun shouldn't be taken away... I think people should just be EXTREMELY careful about who they allow to buy guns and even to sell them. It's sad that a 15 year old kid can go to WalMart and buy a gun. That I don't like, and I think it should be changed.
OMG, where do you live? In WI, it takes 45 minutes of paperwork & background checks for a rifle. For a handgun, there's a waiting period before you can get it.
Can you really imagine most people giving up their guns? Consider this , as it is the underlying thesis of law enforcement. There are not enough law enforcement personnel in the country to enforce the laws of the land. We only have a stable society because the citizens believe there is a rule of law. Once that illusion is gone, you have anarchy or revolution. The best way to control populations is to disarm them and corral them into urban settings.
He already showed his hand on this. His opine is that cities have the right to ban gun ownership---gun free zones. Look how well these gun free zones work...516 murders in NYC alone in 2008 as compared to 318 military deaths in all of Iraq in 2008.
Forget the whole concept about hunting and sportsmanship, everyone should be armed for our own countries security and security from our own country. I am all for hunting and fishing but it is a side argument and a distraction. Where everyone is armed crime goes down. Facism comes in when people are disarmed.
Trust the police, trust the government? I put down the pipe fifteen years ago.
