Let's Restore America
We Americans need to stop fighting over trivial things and get back to what is important. We need to bring back true civility, and need to learn to disagree with others without hating. We also need to learn that people who disagree with our view on any one issue do not necessarily hate us as people. That will allow us to have truly honest discussions on how we can make life in America better, and ensure that these united States continue to be known by the rest of the world as a powerful but good Nation.
America needs to be restored to a time of smaller, common-sense government, run BY the people and FOR the people. It will not happen as long as we allow politics to be a career in which one can get rich and enjoy lifelong benefits no matter how short a time served or how badly the job was done. Those in office need to truly be civil servants. Term limits need to be in effect for all offices, including the Supreme Court.
People need to become as self-sufficient as possible, as individuals, and as a Nation. Americans in general are a very charitable people, and charity will ensure that help be given to those who are truly in need. However, the people who are able to work need to stop expecting free stuff, and work to better their own lives. The strong need to protect those more vulnerable, using reasonable force to do so when necessary,. We need to learn how to, and be allowed to, protect ourselves and others in our community from those who would harm others or take that which does not rightfully belong to them.

I agree that as individuals we need to be more self-reliant, and as we are truly independant, we can expect, and demand that our leaders work to make sure we stay that way.
I'm going to rec this with that hope in mind.
I hate when debates get personal; I prefer when the issues are attacked as opposed to the person.
I really like your first paragraph and find little with which to disagree, except I don't think it is necessary that our nation be seen as "powerful." My impression from traveling is that we are already seen that way and I suspect that is what you are saying. I agree that it would be better if more come to think of us as a good nation.
Concerning the second paragraph--I'm not sure term limits will totally solve the problem but I favor them. I think, in the past, when politicians were "civil servants" longer terms were acceptable. If you have a good horse don't turn it out to pasture to early. We do have a representative form of government and I think often our representatives go with the majority opinion even when they know that the long term effects might be detrimental to our nation and our economy.I am also in accord with self-sufficiency. I think, too that we need to recognize that our economy is a complex inter-mix of capitalism and government measures to insure economic development and maintenance. If we acknowledge this perhaps we can focus on solving our environmental, economic and related problems. In sum, I think it would be a good if we had discussion about issues without generalized statements of hate and blame. I've had in mind to post a blog about what I expect from my congressperson. I hope to do so one of these days.American doesn't need to be seen as powerful - couse it already is. USA needs to be seen as a decent, respectful, and smart country.Not a country run and populated by idiots and thieves. I know a few Americans, who could lead by the example of the lives they live, but sadly - they are a huge minority.
When did this ever happen in America?
I would add, let everyone who believes this not wait for the other side to start doing this first.
@saturnnights - @Kellsbella - @vexations - @KnightInCROATIANarmor - @jaydedheart - @lucylwrites - Thanks fpr reading and offering your insights. @SKANLYN - Thanks for proving every point I have made here.
@lonelywanderer2 - No problem : )
I am starting to think that a capitalistically controlled government will never decide to force much environmental change. However a government can give enough incentives for capitalism to develop alternative energy and seek other ways to lessen the environmental impact of some of the harmful stuff capitalism creates.
I am disappointed that Wikileaks will be prosecuted for leaking too much information. I like a bit of transparency and it helps to keep capitalists and diplomats honest.
@SKANLYN - I don't have much of a high opinion on some of your comments. Blogwise I don't recall much of blog that you ever wrote. The give and take of comments is sort of related to who writes blogs and the tone of some of the comments. I myself am not that consistant in my comments but that is me, a fluid sort of person.
@lucylwrites - The problem as I see it, is that there are sides at all, which has notoriously been used to divide us all for many years. I understand there are differing views, but these views are in the way, anytime we get gridlocked and sucked into defending them over the main goal, which I would go as far as to say is freedom for everyone, regardless of race, religion, gender... and as I type this I realize this is what it was all about in the first place. The idea of freedom, and we've strayed because we're possibly more interested in the one than the many. Out of many, one.
@lucylwrites - @saturnnights - Exactly. We need to come together as Americans instead of taking sides and fighting each other. Certain groups WANT us to keep fighting each other, so we won't be able to effectively cut their power, and their source of wealth, both of which come from taking money from us, and regulating every aspect of our lives.
As one great person put it, they are bribing taxpayers, using money which came from taxpayers.
American Indian Natives were not self sufficient, they depended on each other since that is the way to survive.
@Ikwa - lol, I believe I mentioned we need to work together. We just shouldn't depend on Big Government to take from others and give to us.
@lonelywanderer2 - They... they were originally needed when the majority of us were not educated enough to read. I wonder what that means now?
@Ikwa - @lonelywanderer2 - exactly.
I agree with all of your points- especially being allowed to work, if able-bodied. The whole premise will take time, though. Immature people like to fight and argue- it's what they live for.
@RighteousBruin - Working to provide for one's family is a person's duty. Those who are willing to work hard have the opportunity to better their lot in life. Benjamin Franklin said the best way to help people out of poverty is to male them uncomfortable in their poverty.
Oh yeah, you're on the terrorist watchlist for sure now. I don't know this guy
@Ikwa - they were doing it right, and look what we did
now what we've done destroys our "mother" Can we be more ignorant?
@AOK4WAY - join the club lol
@AOK4WAY - If I wasn't on the watch list ages ago, they just haven't been paying attention!!!
This might make a good group forum! Brainstorming is good for... the brains.
@Ikwa - big difference between Gov & a community.
@Kris0logy - Government is the people under common laws. Trust me every community had laws and leaders.
