I Had A Close Shave
First published April 24, 2009
Today I went to get my beard shaved, with my moustache to be merely evened up. The stylist first misunderstood, and trimmed my beard, but it still was unmistakably a beard. I told her I know they can’t get it baby-smooth, but they usually get it alot more closely shaved. As she worked, she asked about “squaring it up at the jawline”, and I patiently explained that I wanted the whole thing (meaning the beard) shaved as close as possible. When I next looked in the mirror, I could see that my moustache, which I have had for over twenty years, is GONE!!!
Sheesh. Now, I know how Samson felt after his encounter with Delilah!!!

Gosh darn it. That really sucks. If I were a guy with a 20-year-old moustache, I’d be pretty pissed at that lady.
uh, and now you look baby fresh and new…. and of course you still tipped her, right? ♥
Will it grow back fast?
So….what you didn’t mention is the wifeys thoughts on the no mustache you….
I can understand your discomfort, I’d feel much the same way. I’ve had my beard for more than thirty years myself.
That would be awful! How naked do you feel right now?
@willow_ann209 - Even worse than when I stopped carrying a gun for a living. You don’t know how many times I panicked when I reached for a gun that I suddenly realized wasn’t there!
@SerenaDante - In two or three weeks, it’ll look decent again.
@The_Female_Essence - @Made2sing4Jesus - @WalkingaNewPath - Wife and daughter think I should leave it off, son thinks I look ridiculous! Gotta agree with the boy. And yes, Ron, I still tipped her. I gave her a lot of grief, though.
I would go with the wifey for a month & then decide.
gosh, wonder what was floating in that twenty year old mustache?
lol @jewjewbeedragon - I did have it trimmed occasionally, and splash some water at it now and again!
@lonelywanderer2 - Maybe you should just grow it half back in order to satisfy all members of the family
omg!! how do u look without it? good?
You couldn’t feel them shave it off? Fall asleep in the chair?
Oy! But it is good to let that upper lip air out every 20 years or so… and it will grow back. My husband is growing the beard and ‘stache and it is like a porcupine has taken up residence on his face! I’ll be happy when he either shaves it off or it gets long enough not to be so prickly!
So you got a half-beard and no mustach . OMG !this is a true catastrophe, a true change of personality!:-)
But all of this will grow again quickly at spring!<
In friendship
